The World Stroke Organization (WSO) and its members declare the beginning of preparation for World Stroke Day.

By public health statistic one in six people worldwide will have a stroke in their lifetime. Somewhere on the Earth every six seconds, regardless of age or gender – someone dies from stroke.

This, however, is more than a public health statistic. These are

people, who were someone's sisters, brothers, wifes, husbands, daughters, sons, mothers, fathers, friends… Behind the numbers are real lives.

WSO is calling for action to address the silent stroke epidemic and launching the "One in Six" campaign on World Stroke Day, October 29. The campaign celebrates the fact that not only can stroke be prevented, but also that stroke survivors, with qualified care and appropriate long-term support, can fully recover and regain their quality of life.

As in previous years, WSO calls individuals and Communities who prevents, treats and ensures quality of life for people after stroke to join the "One in Six" campaign on World Stroke Day, October 29.
